Design Process

My main inspiration for this design process was of course the Charlie Brown comics themselves. I wanted each character to look like they had just walked out of the comic strips. And so in order to achieve this look, we used car foam headliner, or what they use to line the interior of cars. The material was soft enough to be movable for the actors while also stiff enough to hold a 2-Dimensional illusion. For the wigs, we made bubbles unique to each of the actors’ heads. Then, we used memory foam in order to create a lightweight but stable base, after that we used strips of regular craft foam that could be formed into shape with a heat gun which we glued onto the vase, finally each wig was spray painted to match each character’s hair color.
