For this project I was instructed to create four conceptual costume designs for dance, opera, theater, and film; each inspired by one of the four main elements. For dance I chose the element of air, choosing to create a carnival costume inspired by the imagery of a scarlet macaw escaping a birdcage and flying home in the Amazon. For fire I was inspired by how theater started, choosing to invoke the imagery of stories being told around a fire. For water I was inspired by Bollywood films and chose to create a design inspired by the Ganges river. Finally for Opera I decided that the permanent tradition as well as the grandiosity of the art reminded me most of a mountain; and so I designed a dress that resembles a mountain set against a sunrise.
