Design Process

With Stop Kiss being set in such a specific period that many people are familiar with, the 90s, I knew going in that I really needed to do my research to make sure that I was as authentic as possible. I began taking inspiration from popular media of the 90s while also taking into consideration the setting of New York. The show was almost entirely thrifted with some of my favorite pieces being a real vintage NYU sweatshirt that Callie wears as well as two matching crocheted violet granny square tote bags that I and another costume student handmade to be used as props that represent Callie and Sara’s growing relationship. One of the biggest challenges of this show was creating unique looks for each scene that would convey the passing of time while also accommodating for the many quick changes needed for this show.
